ABSTRACT

A mother brings her 7-year-old son to the emergency department with complaints of a sore throat and fever. He has had symptoms for the past 3 to 4 days. He is now developing a rash and his mother thinks his tongue appears more red than usual. He denies any cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or dysuria. Immunizations are up to date. No recent travel is reported. He has had a decreased appetite but has been drinking fluids well. No recent illnesses are reported.
