ABSTRACT

A mother brings her 8-month-old son into the emergency department with a complaint of pain in the left ear. Mother states that the patient has been rubbing his left ear for the past few days and today she noticed that the left ear appears different from the right. He was recently treated for a left acute otitis media 1 week ago. He has had fevers for the past 2 to 3 days and has been fussier than usual. He has had mild rhinorrhea, but otherwise no cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. No sick contacts are reported and immunizations are up to date. He has been tolerating feeds and urinating a normal amount.
