ABSTRACT
This chapter assesses how accounting and narrative reporting can support companies to reduce the risk of deforestation within the tissue industry. It aims to identify companies’ strategies and policies aimed at preventing the risk of species extinction in plant life. Further environmental stresses upon global populations – both human and non-human – have arisen because of continuing deforestation and general land degradation. Forest biodiversity is rapidly lost due to deforestation, fragmentation and degradation of forests. One of the important initiatives to increase consumer awareness and emphasize concern about deforestation and land degradation was the foundation of the Forest Stewardship Council. Deforestation is recognized as one of the pivotal determinants of greenhouse gases emissions and climate change. In order to prevent the risk of deforestation and biodiversity protection, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget manages conservation parks covering a geographical extension of more than 10,000 hectares, exclusively for forest use.
