ABSTRACT
This chapter is a history, not a standard scientific report. It tells the story of an industrial research and development project in Augmented Reality (AR)—the Boeing project aimed at using AR to guide the assembly of electrical wire bundles. It describes the goal of the project, the technical approaches we chose, some of the problems and surprises we encountered along the way, and some of the lessons we learned in trying to bring a new computing technology into the world’s largest factory.
