ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Periorbital augmentation with autologous fat is an excellent way to restore youthful fullness to the upper face. The normal aging changes of the periorbital area render it hollow, baggy, and sharply demarcated from the neighboring cheek mass. The smooth taught rounded surfaces of youth are lost. Compounding the problem are ‘‘rejuvenation’’ procedures such as blepharoplasty and laser resurfacing, which often further hollow, sculpt, and contract the periorbital tissues. The time has come to take pause and reevaluate the changes in the periobital area that occur with aging.
