nonlinear least squares techniques. Examination of the equation shows that there are three unknowns, bH, X8 ,Ho, and f0 , but that f0 and X8 ,Ho cannot be determined independently of each other. As discussed above, however, a value of 0.20 can generally be assumed for f0 , allowing X8 ,Ho and bH to be determined. It should be noted that X8 ,Ho is specific to the biomass used in the batch test and has no utility as a parameter.
