ABSTRACT

In the available literature concerning the determination of chiral products by separation techniques, consistent opinion of the authors about the application of thin-layer chromatography (TLC) for the analysis of optical isomers is observed in many cases when column techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and capillary electrophoresis are in competition. Enantiomers of compounds, in which chiral center is distant from 4-quinolone ring, such as lomefloxacin, clinafloxacin, gatifloxacin, and tosufloxacin, do not show significant differences in antibacterial activity and pharmacokinetic properties. The separation of enantiomers was carried out by TLC with the application of chiral selectors present in the stationary phase. Chiral separation of flavonoids gains more attention owing to their utility as indicators of proof of origin for vegetable food products. Chromatographic separation was carried out on silica gel plates and cellulose plates impregnated with sodium borate.
