ABSTRACT

Paralleling the advancements in the practice of cardiovascular medicine and thrombocardiology, in-hospital clinical pharmacy services have also evolved. The increasing utilization of these services by cardiologists has resulted in the development of a number of multidisciplinary patient care models that include a clinical pharmacy component. It is useful to briefly examine the changes within the pharmacy profession that have contributed to the development of cardiology clinical pharmacy services. Some of the roots of this movement can be found in three distinct, yet overlapping entities: early clinical pharmacy efforts, pharmacy education governing bodies, and federal government initiatives.
