ABSTRACT

Cardiac imaging, in the form of echocardiography and radionuclide myocardial perfusion imaging, has several roles for the evaluation and management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Noninvasive imaging can be used to aid in differentiating cardiac from noncardiac pain in patients presenting with chest pain syndromes for which the etiology is not immediately clear following initial routine evaluation. Early risk stratification following presentation with suspected acute coronary syndrome can also be accomplished with noninvasive testing, aiding in decision making regarding treatment strategies. Echocardiography may also assist in the diagnosis of complications following myocardial infarction (MI).
