ABSTRACT

Cutaneous aging is an inevitable process that is influenced by individual genetic factors and accelerated by exogenous toxins such as cumulative solar UV exposure. Environmental photodamage can lead to (1) epidermal proliferation such as actinic keratosis and squamous cell carcinoma, (2) uneven increase in melanin production resulting in solar lentigenes, (3) dermal vascular dilatation producing flushing and telangiectasias, and (4) dermal collagen and elastin breakdown causing wrinkles and skin textual changes.
