ABSTRACT

Despite the advances in endovascular techniques for the treatment of non-coronary vascular disease, complications exist which may limit the success of the intervention and result in significant harm and even death to the patient. In an effort to reduce the risk of complication, understanding the systemic nature of atherosclerosis, preintervention diagnostic methods must be accurate, safe, painless, and reproducible. Comprehensive testing promotes improved outcomes through appropriate patient selection. Once the procedure has been completed, post-procedure evaluation of potential complications will result in improved acute and long-term outcomes.
