ABSTRACT

Obesity is an independent risk factor for postoperative morbidity andmortality. Obese patients are at a greater risk of developing postoperative pulmonary complications as well as wound infections, deep venous thrombosis (DVT), and cardiac events compared to non-obese patients (1). Additionally, obesity is associated with several chronic diseases that are also independent risk factors for postoperative complications such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
