ABSTRACT

Essentially all events in biology require one molecule binding to another. With molecular recognition at the heart of biology, a number of phage-display-based techniques have been developed to dissect the details governing binding events. This chapter reviews phage-display applications that provide scalpels and microscopes to explore molecular recognition. These techniques capitalize upon the advantages of the phagedisplay format-rapid production of protein variants, simple protein purification, and the potential for powerful selections.
