ABSTRACT

Lipodissolve involves an injection into adipose tissue to dissolve fat. This treatment slowly breaks down fatty deposits with subcutaneous injections of an adipocyte-dissolving formula. While it is in its infancy in North America, it has been practiced in Europe and South America for over 10 years. Despite the fact that lipodissolve injectors outside the United States tout its benefits based on their favorable experiences, there exists a considerable amount of healthy skepticism in the American cosmetic medical community concerning this procedure. This is mainly due to the paucity of scientific literature demonstrating the histopathology, mechanism of action, and detailed measurable clinical results. This is similar to the situation that pioneering practitioners using Botox1 for cosmetic purposes found themselves in during the early 1990s.
