ABSTRACT

Ohkubo was born in 1934 in Tottori prefecture. He studied medicineat Nihon University in 1958. He transferred to the Department of Science and Technology at the same university and obtained his degree in 1962. After working at the Department of the Brain Surgery, School of Medicine, Keio University as an invited researcher, he started to work at the College of Science and Technology at Nihon University as a scholarly assistant with Professor Dr Gito Teruoka who was the first head of the Institute for Labor Science. Following the establishment of the ergonomics course in the department, he was sent to the Department of Ergonomics and Cybernetics, Loughborogh University in the UK as a guest researcher in the education methods of ergonomics firstly and subsequently, undertook a post-graduate course and obtained his M.Sc. in ergonomics and work physiology in 1969. He continued his research activities and completed his

Ph.D. in physiology in 1973 after returning to his home country. He became professor of labor science and ergonomics at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, College of Industrial Technology, Nihon University. He has been engaged in teaching labor science and ergonomics for almost 40 years, not only lecturing but also supervising the many young students and scientists who obtained their B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. and who now work as ergonomists at universities, national or private institutes, or industries in Japan or in Asian countries.
