ABSTRACT

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by hyperandrogenism and chronic anovulation that affects at least 6% of women at reproductive age (1). PCOS patients suffer from infertility, hirsutism, acne, seborrhoea, alopecia, and obesity (2,3). A significant proportion of PCOS patients has been found to have defective insulin secretion and insulin resistance (4). Accordingly, PCOS patients may be expected to have a higher morbidity and mortality from the sequelae of the metabolic syndrome (MBS) (5,6).
