ABSTRACT
To appreciate the relevance of instrument design in the
practice of liquid chromatography (LC) it is necessary
to have a basic understanding of the chromatographic
process. Consequently, the fundamental principles of a
chromatographic separation will be first discussed in a
general manner and the design of the different parts of
the chromatograph will be subsequently explained on the
basis of the requirements mandated by the nature of the
separation process.
