Bliss Bibliographic Classification First Edition [ELIS Classic]

Henry Evelyn Bliss was probably the greatest American contributor to the theory of the classification of library materials. The first edition of the classification scheme he developed is discussed here by a major British thinker in this area, Jack Mills. After some years of use, the scheme was extensively revised, under the Editorship of the same Jack Mills, and the resulting second edition of the Bliss Bibliographic Classification is discussed in the entry by that name.—ELIS Classic, from 1969
