ABSTRACT

Technical writing conveys practical information for readers to put to use. Technical writing is done in most workplaces by a variety of professionals whose interest in writing is secondary to their primary work function, while specialists in technical communication concentrate on the processes of effective writing and knowledge creation. Professional and technical writers research and articulate solutions for professionals who need to write effectively. Therefore, technical writers construct and manage others’ writing environments, and are responsible for managing documents, knowledge, and information flow in organizations. Technical writing is writing with a purpose in an organization, and so is distinguished from creative writing and academic writing in its purpose, scope, and audience.
