ABSTRACT

Throughout the millennial history and worldwide dispersion of the Armenian nation, libraries have played and continue to play a critical role. They have been instrumental in collecting and preserving the written works which embody the creativity of the Armenian mind, and making widely accessible recorded knowledge about the history, language, and literature of one of the oldest peoples on earth. This entry presents an overview of the establishment and development of libraries, museums, and archives, with special emphasis on those institutions functioning today in the Republic of Armenia.
