ABSTRACT
This entry provides factual data and background on the development and current state of libraries, archives, and museums in Tunisia. Emphasis is on the more-significant components of these sectors historically and culturally. The development of cultural institutions since Tunisia became independent and important legislation concerning these institutions are addressed in some detail. The conclusions point out that despite considerable investment in cultural and information infrastructure and services, there remain considerable hurdles to overcome for this emerging albeit studious country.
