ABSTRACT
Making collections is a universal human activity that helps human beings to understand the world around them; collections were made long before there were museums to put them in. The concept of the museum was developed from the association of objects and learning associated with the Temple of The Muses of ancient Alexandria. Museums have evolved from Renaissance cabinets of curiosities open only to a few into modern institutions that may both reflect and help shape human society.
