ABSTRACT
This entry provides an overview of the basic principles of copyright law, along with a discussion of what factors are relevant when determining whether a copyright has been infringed. Limitations on a copyright holder's exclusive rights are explored and examples are provided of how a fair use analysis might be made in a college or university setting for certain situations, including classroom use, distance education, presentations, publications, and Web sites.
