ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to explore the use of augmented and virtual reality within the age range of 5 and 18 years old; these are the ages within the United Kingdom of compulsory education. The chapter will look at the current literature regarding primary studies of the use of augmented and virtual reality within the specified age range with a focus on the curriculum focus, impact identified and on-going pervasiveness within the forward curriculum.

Expanding on this general view, a number of case studies will be looked at to identify recent and current work within a number of primary, secondary and further education institutions that are taking augmented and virtual reality into their curricula with an intention of embedding the technology to enhance learning aims, retention and depth of understanding and open up new opportunities and approaches for social learning.
