Education, Age, and the Machine
The combined influences of technological change and longevity look set to transform the educational system. What we learn, when and how we learn it, and who we learn it from all will change. The good news for the educational system is that the continued growth it has benefited from over the last 100 years looks set to continue as these forces should raise the return on education. The more challenging news is that this expansion will manifest itself as a shift into new areas which are currently poorly served—adult education, intergenerationally mixed courses, skills- and employment-based learning, and shorter cumulative programs.
