ABSTRACT

The waves of the 1980s in Belgium, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries can be seen in the perspective of the avant-garde since CoBrA and Situationism as well as the theatre of images. This article shows especially how this created an impact in the North, and how visual performance was introduced, creating an interaction of the ritualistic and the mechanical, in the work of companies like those of Jan Fabre, Baktruppen and Verdensteatret. Visual performance and the installation works show a special Nordic inter-action.
