ABSTRACT

Opening this section, in chapter 9 Emil Jackson describes how it can be used as one effective approach to build leadership effectiveness and optimize team relationships in school settings. He outlines some of the central ideas about MBTI (Myers–Briggs Type Indicator) personality preferences and draws on his application of MBTI in school settings to illustrate how it can help school leaders to identify, understand, and more respectfully appreciate how and why different personality preferences might complement and conflict with each other. He further illustrates how vital insights gained through an understanding of MBTI can provide school leaders and their teams with a common language to openly discuss and accommodate different personalities and behaviours; facilitate effective collaboration; and reduce the risks of unhelpful and potentially toxic misunderstandings.
