ABSTRACT
Virginia Woolf ( 1882–1941 ) was a granddaughter of the novelist Thackeray and wrote many novels and much literary criticism. With her husband Leonard Woolf she founded the Hogarth Press. She was very much concerned with the lives of women and their position in society though her novels are far removed from tub-thumping. Some think her best novel was the most experimental, The Waves, (1931). She suffered from attacks of mental depression all her life and committed suicide in 1941.
