ABSTRACT

Diagnosing extrapulmonary tuberculosis remains difficult because not all medical care facilities can do it as the microbiological examination of tissue materials requires invasive action and special equipment. Extrapulmonary tuberculosis diagnosis should be made by observing clinical manifestation and through microbiological and/or histopathological examinations of biopsies taken from infected organs, but in practice, this is not entirely possible. The purpose of this study was to analyze the histopathological features and microbiological examination of tissue biopsy to establish the extrapulmonary tuberculosis diagnosis in designing parameters for an extrapulmonary tuberculosis diagnostic scoring model. Samples consisted of tissue biopsies from extrapulmonary tuberculosis patients. Histopathological preparations used Hematoxylin Eosin staining along with the microbiological examination of Acid Fast Bacilli stains via the Ziehl Neelsen method. The results showed that the Acid Fast Bacilli stains mostly have a degree of positivity of +1. The histopathological feature was almost entirely granuloma and a relationship emerged between the degree of Acid Fast Bacilli positivity and the histopathology feature. This study concluded that the histopathological feature is related to the results of the microbiological examination so that it can be used as a parameter for an extrapulmonary tuberculosis diagnostic scoring model design.
