ABSTRACT

The following article summarizes a series of developments revolving around innovative mining technologies in the field of mechanical rock cutting that have and are being developed at the Chair of Surface Mining at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Amongst them are undercutting, cutting of pre-weakened rock and cutting force analysis for sensing boundaries between different rock types. This research can be understood as contributions towards the knowledge base for low-impact, highly selective mining techniques of the future.
