Project and Coursework
While a distinction could be made between project and coursework, they shade into one another and it would probably not be helpful to spend time trying to pin down the distinction. Project work in particular gives pupils the opportunity to use their own initiatives and to be creative. Projects and assessable coursework should be planned by all the teachers so that the demands on the pupils are spread out over, say, two years before the final examination. If each subject demands an assessment of project or coursework (as it probably will) it may mean that a pupil is faced with seven or eight projects at the same time, and this could well prove to be too burdensome. In the final analysis the project or coursework must be given a grade so that it can be combined with the grades given for the written examination paper, and for any required practical work.
