ABSTRACT

Love-crafting is the skilled practice of tailoring our loving relationships to suit our individual strengths, needs, and values. We are not encouraged to do this. Quite the opposite: we’re all expected to follow a single romantic script. Why are we unable—or unwilling—to embrace the art of love-crafting? Why don’t we even have this concept? Using love-crafting as an example, this essay looks at the hidden power of concepts, and the role of philosophy in uncovering and critiquing their effects.
