ABSTRACT

The Meisner technique uses the entire mind, body, and spirit of an actor. Meisner insisted on seeing the individual onstage with all of their quirks, idiosyncrasies, hopes, dreams, and aspirations. It is about emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological freedom. There are numerous synonyms for this word, such as ease, openness, spontaneity, liberation, unconstrained, unimpeded, and unconfined. When actors approach this idea of being free onstage with others while having the text as a guideline, powerful and genuine moments are allowed to happen. Meisner called the relationship between two or more actors onstage a “symbiotic ecosystem.” The application of Meisner is appropriate for any style of theatrical production, especially modern realistic plays.
