ABSTRACT

In the study of ecology, there is a term for a unique phenomenon called the “edge effect.” The edge effect is the point where two different ecosystems meet. The edge of the forest meets the edge of the savanna, and at that exact point new life forms emerge. A good teacher can guide reader through new ways of creating something exciting. Working actors, due to the nature of this profession, are always working at the edge. They work with different directors, crazy writers, diverse environments, open-air theaters, ancient stages, contemporary black boxes, green screens, sometimes maybe even an ordinary room, and they are always adjusting. They adjust their voice and body to the space; their eyes to the lights; they adjust to the wants and the needs of the writer, their scene partner, and those of the director; but most importantly they adjust their points of view, their technique, the way they approach the play and the character.
