ABSTRACT

Sustainable development is a complex concept. It addresses the basic human condition of wellbeing and our position in nature. To achieve the sustainable development of any nation, inter-generational wellbeing has to be achieved. There are several approaches and ways to achieve this development. The approach of social entrepreneurship is an emerging approach to achieve this development. In India, the practice of social entrepreneurship approach has several decades of history. However, it attracted the attention of academia only very recently. In this chapter, an attempt has been made to explore the potential of the social entrepreneurship approach to address the issues of wellbeing for sustainable development in India. Three cases on social entrepreneurs and their social enterprises in India are considered for the study. The study concludes that the social entrepreneurship approach has helped to address the local issues of wellbeing. To create a better state to deliver sustainable wealth, comprehensive wellbeing by considering political mobilisation along with the social mobilisation needs to be addressed.
