ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author reflects on her successful use of Positive Pedagogy (PPed) in strength and conditioning (S&C) coaching and she believe it provides a compelling example of the great successes that can be achieved by taking this approach. PPed is at first demanding to implement, but the effort is worth it. The author founds it an empowering approach for both the players and for herself, not simply for how it boosts performance, but also for how it can help coaches challenge male hegemony in S&C to motivate, empower and liberate female athletes to embrace S&C training. PPed offers ideas for coaches to create an empowering training environment that results in pivotal changes and long-life learning. The inclusion of goal setting, visualization and the use of music, as requested by the team, encouraged it to adopt a positive psychological climate that allowed for the embedding of S&C into the team’s culture and ambitions for the season.
