ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author reflects on how, as an assistant soccer coach at a US high school and draws on Positive Pedagogy for sport coaching (PPed) to make learning positive but in combination with the use of wearable technology. He highlights how wearable technology helped to shine light on some significant differences in physiological responses, and how this example opened up the coaching to a PPed approach. What probably sounds like an odd combination, contributed to shift from the traditional ways in which team had been coached toward a more game-based and athlete-centered approach that provided positive experiences for the young athletes. Recognizing an opportunity provided by the use of wearable technology opened up opportunities to apply elements of PPed to enhance this and to ultimately provide highly efficient coaching sessions and almost an organic development.
