ABSTRACT
This entry provides a discussion on global water policy issues. It specifically deals with issues of water quality and quantity that have occurred as a result of increased globalization. Issues of water quality include surface water and groundwater contamination while issues of water quantity include the growing problem of aquifer depletion that plagues utility systems around the world. This entry also suggests that by forming institutional arrangements and networks that emphasize collaboration and adaptive management, nations can form a cohesive global water policy to meet the demand for water. It is suggested that a redefinition of how we interact with water in conjunction with a cohesive global water policy initiative that emphasizes sustainable development is required to meet the increasing water quality and quantity demands for the future.
