ABSTRACT

In recent years, educators have been faced with the difficult problem of providing individualized instruction for a large number of children performing on different levels within the same classroom. Proposed solutions to this problem have included the use of teaching machines and programmed materials. Such devices are expensive and for the typical teacher whose children do not have access to such resources, other remedies are needed. Alternative solutions to this problem have focused on the use of students to tutor other students and the use of reinforcement procedures.
