ABSTRACT

A variety of laboratory studies have indicated that aggressive behavior can be instigated in animals by pain or other aversive conditions (Johnson, 1972; Knutson, 1973; Maple & Matheson, 1973). Experimental studies indicating a relationship between aversive events and aggressive behavior in humans are less common, with the exception of studies relating to modeling procedures and aggressive behavior (Gelfand et al., 1974). Other effects of punishment on human behavior have been reviewed by Johnston (1972).
