ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter includes definitions of selected fundamental concepts and quantities characterizing sound which are used further in the text of this monograph, including definitions of sound, noise, and ultrasonic noise. Quantities characterizing acoustic phenomena are discussed, including those concerning propagation of sound waves in rooms.
