ABSTRACT

In many countries, ultrasonic noise is regarded as a factor harmful to human health in the work environment. However, any unambiguous and in-depth information about factors affecting sound pressure level measurement result in the frequency range above 20 kHz is hardly available. In fact, there are no currently applicable international standards concerning the methodology of ultrasonic noise measurement at workstations. This chapter presents a proposal concerning adaptation of the existing noise level measuring methods to the ultrasonic range. The discussed issues include, in particular, requirements concerning the measuring apparatus, rules of conduct in the course of taking measurements, application of corrections to measurement results, and determination of measurement uncertainties.
