ABSTRACT

Students of election strategies, particularly the 2020 presidential campaigns, are drawn into a debate that seems to be fracturing the Democratic Party. Defeating the Donald J. Trump agenda will require a well-mobilized, inclusive, and collaborative effort. About 20 swing counties in those seven states will determine who wins those states. Twenty percent of the likely electorate remains undecided about President Trump or his opponent. Eighty percent is intensely for or against him. Therefore, it is important to message to those undecideds, something true for Republicans as well as Democrats. The fact is that swing voters in those bellwether media markets tend to be fairly moderate. They want lower taxes, affordable and quality health care, and protections for women’s health. Many also have 401(k) accounts, don’t want to lose their private health insurance, and are wary of major economic disruptions.
