ABSTRACT

In 2018, Julius began to organize with the Texas Organizing Project (TOP) to help to elect local and state officials who would value Black lives through their priorities and policies. Julius and Madai represent the millions of Black and Latinx people committed to defeating Trump agenda. The election of Donald J. Trump has challenged this long-held belief. Under his administration, living in a progressive city is no longer enough to protect the communities. In the fall of 2018, Julius worked with TOP to elect a district attorney who ran on ending mass incarceration. Make the Road Action Nevada grew their canvass program from zero to 30,000 doors in 2018, and their members went on to win housing protections for tenants and worker justice provisions. In Arizona, Living United for Change in Arizona knocked on 250,000 doors in 2018—and is prepared to knock on 350,000 in 2020.
