ABSTRACT

To increase the effectiveness of management systems in the organizations managers primarily focus on strategic processes, i.e. those that create added value in business terms. Less attention is usually paid to auxiliary processes, among others, to OSH-related ones. The situation has recently started to change since the new standard ISO 45001:2018 was adopted and published, in which the implementation of process approach is the basic prerequisite for the OSH management system compliance with this standard. This chapter includes the discussion on the application of process approach to OSH management systems. First, the typology of business processes is presented, taking into account OSH-related processes and their basic elements. Next, the methods of identification of OSH processes are described, followed by the discussion on the measurement of OSH process performance with particular regard to the methods of creating and selecting performance indicators, and the rules of process performance evaluation. The chapter also presents the Activity-Based Costing method and the possibilities resulting from its application in the economic analysis of OSH management processes.
