ABSTRACT

Occupational risks related to newly introduced chemical substances and their mixtures, and substances that cause an increase in hazards in their production, processing, and use, especially inhalation and skin exposure, should be controlled by introducing appropriate actions—in accordance with the priority order: substitution, technical collective protection equipment, organizational measures, personal protection equipment, as well as transport and disposal.

Exposure to chemical agents in these processes may occur through inhalation, ingestion, and through the skin. Actions aimed at eliminating or controlling the hazards of harmful chemical agents at the source of emission are also determined by the requirements of EU directives. Therefore, there is a demand for the development of human health protection methods and equipment against the hazards of their emission.

The methods and measures to protect human health against the hazards of chemical agent emissions and particulate matter emissions presented in this chapter have been characterized in relation to the design, operation and modernization or maintenance phases of individual elements of production, transport and storage process.
