ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 outlines the two critical learnings emerging from recent studies done on sustainability of CR stations in the region. The first is regarding the impact of policies on sustainability and the advantages and disadvantages of having a formal policy for community radio. The second is regarding the institutional character of CR stations emerging in the South Asia region. This chapter discusses a strategic design for ensuring sustainability of CR as a local media resource – a way to amplify local voices and prioritise marginalised concerns while imparting information critical for development.
