ABSTRACT

No single aircraft is ideal for the needs of all aeromedical roles or is suitable for the care of all types of patients requiring transportation. The aircraft may be owned by the sponsoring agency (for example, hospital or ambulance service) or leased from a vendor. Likewise, pilots and mechanics may be employed by the sponsor or vendor. It is the joint responsibility of both vendors and program sponsors to ensure that all applicable governmental regulations are being followed in regards to aircraft operation and maintenance. Space and seating requirements must allow for stowage and for use of equipment and supplies within the cabin. Single-pilot fixed wing aeromedical operations are permitted in some countries under certain circumstances. Helicopter accidents are clearly a high profile safety issue for the aeromedical transport industry.
