ABSTRACT

The new seminary in Deoband aimed at indoctrinating Muslim youth with Islamic values, and cultivating intense hatred towards the British and all foreign influences. The seminary exposed former students only to the spiritual and philosophical traditions of Islam with the goal of islamisation of state and society in view. In Hamburg, Atta visited the Al-Quds Mosque, preaching a “harsh, uncompromisingly fundamentalist, and resoundingly militant” version of Sunni Islam. Al-Qaeda seeks a global radicalisation of existing Islamic groups and the creation of radical Islamic groups where none exist. The Islamic movement in general, and the jihad movements in particular, must train themselves and their members on perseverance, patience and steadfastness. The western forces that are hostile to Islam have clearly identified their enemy. They refer to it as Islamic fundamentalism. The West was in decline, and would soon be replaced by true Islam.
