ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on some common themes and insights that are apparent to me across different sets of studies. It attempts to set each of these in larger theoretical and material contexts. The book focuses this analysis around the general and specific goals of the Cultural Practices of Literacy study. It focuses on the construct of sociotextual domain and the continuing search for insights into the in- and out-of-school practice(s) of literacy—insights that both contribute to theories of literacy and literacy development but also promise real change in educational policy that will disrupt the almost perfect correlation between marginality status and academic underachievement in literacy.
